2010 Cosplay Meme

WOOT! IT IS TIME ONCE again to look back how 2010 had been for me with cosplay and I have to say it was quite satisfactory for me although I know I could have done much better. I feel bad when see a lot of fabrics untouched, and props half-way done, with no definite certainty that it will be finished or if I ever want to finish it at all! I have already canceled three to four costumes in-progress for the reason that I lost interest in them anymore because making them seemed such a hassle and a waste of time, money, effort, and event to go to, when I can make and wear something more interesting at the moment. It is a sad sad thing. But, hey, I hadn't thrown those costumes in-progress away. Who knows, one day I might decide to finally finish it for me or for somebody else. :)

So enough with sad talk, let's proceed to look back at my cosplay activities last year.

And so with reference to my Cosplay plans for 2010 post last year, I was able to debut three costumes: American McGee's Alice, Rikku from Final Fantasy X2 (although this is not the costume I originally planned), and Princess Emeraude from Magic Knight Rayearth. Two costumes -- Paris and Silva -- were never listed in my plans but rather, spur of the moment costumes that I labored to finish in a week. And the remaining three, Alchemist, Celestia, and Huntress, were all old costumes worn again for photoshoots.

I also made four costumes that I wasn't able to wear.

The Spring Genie from Perfect World was worn by my cousin, Jillan. My Kaguya Sumeragi costume, I decided to sell even without wearing it for any event, but I did wore it for sample fitting. And the last two were for a shoot last November (unfortunately Jillan and I were not able to attend). I was to go as Red Alice and Jillan, as Amina-inspired Queen of Hearts. I made both costumes.

And here are some little information on each costume.

 • Alchemist (Ragnarok Online) - I wore this for a shoot with my cousin Raine in February. I did the same version I wore for the Level Up! event in 2009, with the elf ears and fan as variant. I had a blonde wig this time because it will stand better in the background. The shoot was awesome and the Alchemist proved to me again why it is my favorite Ragnarok Online costume.

 • Alice (American McGee) - I worked on this costume for about two months on and off. This was the costume I was working on before my grandmother died in March. After that I was not able to work on anything cosplay related, so I finished this costume in June before the yearly Toycon's Game Girl cosplay contest. Wearing this costume was so comfortable! And has became an automatic favorite. I simply can't get enough of Alice, that I wore it again for the E-Life Videogame Cosplay Contest in July. I am hoping to have a photoshoot with Alice this year too.

 • Princess Emeraude (Magic Knight Rayearth) - This costume was made for the E-Life Comic Book Battle cosplay contest and worked on it for about a week and a half. This costume is actually a trial practice for a similar cosplay plan and I am so glad to know how far my sewing skills can take me. Of course, this being my first full gown, there were so many mistakes and patches. Having the wig also made choosing this character easy.

 • Paris (Dragonica) - I fell in love with her wings! There is a lot of improvement to be done in this costume but for a first try when I wore it for the Dragonica Commercial Launch in September, I got good feedback. I didn't mean to be so daring, but Paris is the easiest Dragonica costume to make in less than a week. I hope to give this costume a proper shoot this 2011 before retirement.

 • Rikku (Final Fantasy) - I originally planned to go as Chii for Cosplay Mania X, but I never got to finish my costume. In fact, it is not even half-way done because I ran out of accessory materials. And it wasn't in the morning when I have finally decided to dress up as Rikku in casual clothing. Rikku is such a fun character to do! Also, I wanted to do the Psychic Rikku dress sphere -- another costume in-progress, I regret to say. Much more to say I am putting this in a box along with the cancelled costumes.

 • Goddess of Wind Silva (Rohan Online) - Silva is yet another spur of the moment costume decision like Paris. My sister helped me with choosing a different costume to wear for Level Up! 2010 instead of the Spring Genie costume I already made for the event. Again, I didn't mean to be too daring. My costume was also not near finish and perfection. But I am going to say now that Silva is the last of its kind of sexy and skimpy costumes I will make and wear. This costume is also my entry for the Cosplay Costume of the Year 2010. Have you LIKED me yet? ♥

 • Celestia (Shining Wind) - Hah! FINALLY FINALLY got this costume to a photoshoot! I have been so excited to wear this costume since 2009 after fixing it up so much better. My first elf cosplay is so... celestial ! I thank Sir Kiko Francisco for giving Celestia a proper shoot.

 • Huntress (Ragnarok Online) - Wow, talk about wearing old costumes. This one dates back in 2005, when I first wore the costume with an owl-looking falcon. I also wore this for a commercial for MTV Massive on the same year and never again. That my joy for finally having proper photos for the costume. Now, just one more shoot/photo to make my Huntress cosplay a completion.

 • Spring Genie (Perfect World) - Jillan wore this costume that I have always wanted to make because of her wings. Oh how I am falling in love with wings right now. I am so happy I was able to make this costume. I hope I can wear it too for a shoot. I haven't cosplayed a fairy yet. :)

And then there's the discovery of more interesting characters to cosplay and the photo contests in between. Overall it was an awesome cosplay year and that concludes my cosplays for 2010. Not bad eh? But I am going to be better this year.

Promise.
